Description for Software Engineer
As a Software Engineer I (Frontend) at Chegg, you will play a crucial role in building nextgeneration educational systems. While your primary focus is on frontend development, you’ll also work closely with our full-stack teams and engage with backend technologies and cloud services. In this role, expertise in Node.js and GraphQL is essential for creating efficient, robust, and scalable applications.
What You’ll Do:
Develop and optimize dynamic user interfaces using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
Build responsive, high-performance applications with advanced frameworks
such as React.js, Next.js, and Redux.
Implement effective state management solutions (e.g., Redux, MobX, or React Context) to maintain consistency and scalability across applications.
Utilize UI frameworks (such as Material-UI, Bootstrap, or similar) to deliver
polished, user-friendly interfaces.
Leverage modern frontend tooling and build processes (e.g., Webpack, Gulp,
Babel) to streamline development and ensure code quality.
Use Node.js for server-side development, ensuring efficient data flow and robust integrations.
Implement and manage GraphQL APIs to streamline data fetching and enhance client-server interactions.
Collaborate with product managers, UX/UI designers, data scientists, and
backend developers to deliver cohesive, end-to-end solutions.
Full-Stack Exposure:
Gain hands-on experience with backend technologies including Java, Spring
Boot, microservices, Redis, MySQL, and AWS services.
Support cloud deployments and help maintain scalable, secure applications.
Write and maintain robust unit and integration tests to ensure the reliability of your code.
Embrace CI/CD pipelines and modern debugging practices to streamline
development and deployment processes.

Qualifications & Skills:
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.

Experience:
1+ years of hands-on experience with frontend technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, React.js, Next.js, and Redux.
Proven expertise in Node.js for server-side development.
Mandatory experience with GraphQL—both in designing and consuming GraphQL APIs.
Technical Proficiencies:
Solid understanding of software design principles, data structures, and
algorithms.
Experience with state management libraries (e.g., Redux, MobX, or React Context) to build scalable applications.
